The Story Behind Hasti Films

My journey into medicine began with a year of intensive training at a Harvard-affiliated Medical School, which led to working in the Surgical and Burn Intensive Care Units at a top 50 US hospital, which came with a lot of responsibility and respect at the age of just 22.

That path took me to California, where I specialized in parenteral nutrition, which is vein feeding for individuals with severe gastrointestinal issues, and is one of the most dangerous medications due to the complexity of the calculations. But I like math, and I really loved doing this work.

Ultimately, I wanted to get more up-stream to disease, so I completed continuing education in Integrative and Functional Nutrition while working at a concierge medical practice with two highly respected MDs.

After a break-up, I moved back to Minneapolis and founded Oswald Digestive Clinic. We offer telemedicine for gut health, and our Google testimonials still make my eyes water. This work also taught me more about the complicated world of US health insurance, which of course was a blessing and a headache at the same time.

A few years into this, I found myself getting pulled down to South America. It didn't make logical sense, but I couldn't fight the energy pulling me to this part of the world.

So in 2021, through a series of synchronicities, thus began my education into Amazonian Shamanic Medicine. All of a sudden, I found myself in this school that I did not sign up for, but that I was and am deeply curious about.

Amazonian Shamanic Medicine is estimated to have been around for at least 4,000 years, and is well respected for its ability to help people heal from psychological difficulties, including major depression and drug addiction.

One thing led to another, and we created our first film, "What Is Colombian Ayahuasca?" with a third generation Taita (authentic word for shaman, or healer, in Colombia), completely filmed on a GoPro and iPhone 16!

And so, I continue on this journey, now with a nicer camera, and am continuing to follow the breadcrumbs, and share the wisdom that wants to be shared through film.

I appreciate the respect and trust that I've received by curanderos (authentic word for shaman), and the wisdom keepers of the area.

While Shamanic medicine will not help you as much as conventional medicine can after a car accident, it would likely help you better in many situations of psychological difficulty. And, vice versa.

By bridging these two worlds, Shamanic Medicine and Modern Science, through conversation and understanding, we can build relationships and collaborations that can ultimately create better healthcare systems for both.

This is our mission. Thank you so much for your support.
