Synopsis

What is Colombian Ayahuasca? is a raw, immersive journey into an invite-only indigenous community in Colombia—one that few outsiders ever get access to. Filmed with a stripped-down, guerrilla-style approach, this documentary captures the story of a third-generation shaman in a way big-budget productions never could. No staged moments, no artificial setups—just real, unfiltered life as it unfolds.

At its core, this film explores ayahuasca as an ancient healing modality—one that people around the world have turned to for mental health struggles like depression, suicidal thoughts, and addiction. Through deeply personal stories, we follow individuals who have experienced ayahuasca firsthand, sharing their raw, unfiltered journeys of transformation.

This is modern verité storytelling: lean, mobile, embedded. A filmmaking style that moves with the moment rather than controlling it. It’s a rare, insider’s look at a tradition that has remained largely hidden—captured in a way only this kind of intimate, on-the-ground filmmaking can achieve.

Reviews

I found it so interesting to learn about the ceremony process and hear from people's personal experiences. What a great tool for mental health and connection! It seems more attainable to me now.

This truly is amazing, a gift. If I can ask how to go about getting involved with this treatment?

This looks like it could be on Netflix
